Blackburn Bowling Club was founded in 1962 with 20 members. The green originally belonged to Lothian Regional Council with the public being able to hire bowls from the pavilion and have the use of the green for a small fee.

In 1982 a local businessman bought the green from the council and built a clubhouse with a function hall and kitchen. The club continued to grow, both in membership numbers, and as a successful watering-hole at weekends with bands, cabarets and private functions becoming regular features of club activity.

In 2001 the extension was built adding a member's lounge. This gave club members a place to socialise on the evenings when the hall was being used for private functions.

More recently the club has added a grandstand for better viewing of the games. A small beer garden was added at the same time. The function hall, kitchen and toilets were also refurbished.

The club now has full membership with Male, Female and a thriving Junior section.

For the last four years the club has had the honour of hosting the prestigious Champion of Champions tournament.
